5 Must Have’s For A Recruiting Culture

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

A direct selling executive recently told me, “We don’t have a recruiting culture.”

What exactly is a recruiting culture?  The simple definition is a high rate of recruiting.

To have a recruiting culture, a company must do all of the following:

  1. Provide enough information and support early in the life of new representatives so that they feel comfortable enough to consider recruiting others.
  2. Teach representatives how to recruit.
  3. Share the methods of your top recruiters with others.
  4. Encourage and reward recruiting through an attractive Fast Start Program in your compensation plan.
  5. Recognize recruiting separately for both new and established independent representatives.

To know how they’re measuring up, companies need to measure their rates of recruiting over time.

Do you have a recruiting culture?  If not, do you know what you’re missing?

Ask Victoria: Why Is The Direct Sales Attrition Rate So High?

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

The rate of attrition of independent representatives of direct selling companies is high for many reasons. Here are several of them:

Direct selling is a “sales” job, but the average person joining a direct selling company may not view herself as a “salesperson.” While people are often led to believe that it is easy and that great products are all that is needed for customers to flock to them, success isn’t guaranteed for everyone. Sales isn’t always easy.

Fear of failure is another reason. Some people join direct selling companies with high hopes, but never achieve success because they’re afraid to try.

What is Autoship?

Autoship is an automatic ordering program whereby representatives or customers of a direct selling company can place orders with the company that are shipped automatically on a periodic basis (usually monthly).

What can Autoship do for my business?

Autoship accomplishes several company goals:

  1. It encourages the placement of orders on a regular basis by its sales representatives.
  2. Since effort is required to cancel an autoship, representatives will order products over a longer period of time than they would otherwise.
  3. Sales representatives don’t need to remember to order to meet their personal sales volume requirement.
  4. When offered to customers of representatives, autoship increases the value of the distributor’s business by providing a recurring income on recurring sales between the company and the customers.
  5. Autoship can be used to help balance the volumes of orders to be packed and shipped throughout the month.
  6. Autoship helps to increase the rate of retention of both sales representatives and customers.
  7. When you know the percentage of company sales attributable to autoship, you can predict next month’s total sales volume.

What types of products can be sold through Autoship?
